The Boys and Girls Club of Niagara Welcomes you to the EJ Freeland Community Centre
Effective August 3, 2020, the Fort Erie community will have access to the Community Fitness Centre located within the EJ Freeland Community Centre, which offers key services that promote health and wellness. Community members may access the Centre through a unique ‘pay as you go’ system by purchasing one of two ‘Centre Pass’ options. Offered in a family-friendly atmosphere with choice and convenience in mind, community members may choose between the below pass options to best suit their needs.

3 Month Pass $120.00 unlimited*
*3 Month Passes are available anytime at the beginning of the month, but covers a three-month window from the first of the month*
When you purchase either Pass, you will have access to the following services:
- Strength training and cardio equipment (weight room)
- Aquafit, lane swim and open swim
- Change rooms, locker access and showers
- Indoor walking/running track
Our fitness space consists of a variety of strength equipment, free weights and cardio equipment including treadmills, rowers, cross trainers, upright and recumbent bikes and arc trainers. The fitness space is open to those 15 years of age or older with the purchase of a club pass during all operational hours.

Participation by Age
Adults 16 years of age or older are permitted to register for group fitness classes.
Pricing & Duration
Group fitness classes are offered for a four-week duration. Each class, depending on the type, lasts between 45 minutes and one hour. Each class block will be priced according to the number of classes.
This class is a mix of hi/lo cardio of at least 45 minutes in length. The cardio segment may include such elements as traditional cardio, athletics, boot camp or kickboxing exercises. The remainder of the class is spent on total body conditioning, strength and relaxation.
Boot camp workouts can vary. Generally, they will include a fairly intense mix of aerobic, strength training and speed elements within each class session. A boot camp workout is essentially a type of interval training – bursts of intense activity alternated with intervals of lighter activity.
Make the most of your time with this super-effective routine. Move around gymnasium challenging your muscles and cardiovascular system to improve your mobility, strength, and stamina. This class consists of a warm-up, a mix of cardio, and strength training exercises. We may enhance your experience by adding hand weights.
We can be fit and vital at any age. This class is for those who are looking for a moderate workout in a safe environment. The cardio component will enhance heart and lung function, and the strength component will help to improve balance, flexibility, bone density, power and coordination while increasing injury protection.
Aquatic Fitness class sizes will be reduced to ensure social distancing. The maximum number of people per class will be determined by Public Health guidelines. Interested participants will be required to register in advance the day of, for the class they want to attend. Drop-in spots will be available only if space permits.
Lane Swim availability will be reduced, and each swimmer will be assigned an individual lane. Swimmers are required to remain in their assigned lane, with the exception of entering and exiting the pool. The maximum number of people per lane swim will be 4. It is recommended that interested participants reserve a position in the class they want to attend. Drop-in spots will be available only if space permits.
COVID-19 Admission Standards and Guidelines
Water bottles should be brought from home and filled in advance. Water fountains will not be available for use.
Face masks are to be worn in the Club but are not required during heavy exercises such as working out on treadmills or cross-trainers. Disposable face masks may be purchased for a fee at the point of entry.
Physical distancing is required throughout the facility. Participants are asked to follow the indicated path distancing indicators and adhere to posted capacity limits in each room.
Fitness users are required to come prepared for their workout.
Any and all equipment supplied will be designated for that intended use and disinfected after each use.
All participants and staff must wash hands with soap for at least 20 seconds upon entering or leaving the facility and after going to the washroom, sneezing, coughing, eating, smoking, using shared equipment, and providing care for another.
Participants will be asked to use hand sanitizer when entering the club and frequently throughout their visit. It is recommended hand sanitizer will be available at new touchless stations throughout the facility.
Participants will be asked to use disinfectant wipes on equipment before and after use.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, all steam rooms, saunas, and whirlpools will remain closed. In addition, all racquet sports, and gym sports including basketball will be discontinued until further notice. To further manage the risk of potential spread, no towel service, newspaper, or concession services will be available.

Will Fitness Programs be offered at the EJ Freeland Community Centre?
Yes. Fitness Programs including access to the fitness center, track, and ancillary programs including individual strength and conditioning (weight room), cardio, and a full selection of group fitness programs will be offered at the Centre. Other popular programs such as Pickle Ball will be offered as restrictions are lifted.
How much will a Membership Cost?
There will be no membership cost. Programs and services will be available on a ‘Fee for Service’ basis. This model of delivery is typical in municipalities across the province and offers participants choice and flexibility that enables them to access only the programs they want.
Will there be swim lessons and open swim?
Yes. The Boys and Girls Club is an authorized provider of the Canadian Lifesaving Society. Swim lessons will be available for all ages. Open swim will be available at scheduled times. Please note that in order to register for swimming lessons your child has to become a member of the Boys and Girls Club of Niagara. This is $20 per year.
Will there be child care?
The facility does not have an appropriate space to offer child care at this time. Understanding the shortage of child care space region-wide. The Boys and Girls Club is working on plans for future child care services at the facility but there is much more work to be done. Information regarding child care will be released when it becomes available.

What will happen to the Boys and Girls Club at 20 Lewis Street?
The Boys and Girls Club is committed to serving the whole of Fort Erie in a manner that best meets the needs of the community. Programs and service at 20 Lewis Street will continue as planned until the end of the school year with a view to reassess needs and consult with all stakeholders.
