The Boys and Girls Club of Niagara enjoys a rich past of excellent service. The men and women who led this organization through 45 years of challenge and change, successfully provided Niagara’s children and youth with “A Good Place to Be”.

Since the doors opened at the Culp Street location, August 29, 1960, the heart of the Club always remained with offering affordable programs for children and youth. The introduction of bussing, in 1965, increased accessibility. The name changed from the Boys Club to the Boys and Girls Club of Niagara, in 1975, which facilitated the expansion of girls programs and services. P.A.L.S. and F.R.I.E.N.D.S programs, in 1982, initiated programs for youth with Special Needs. The Kid’s First Daycare opened in 1997 and offered childcare. The Nightlight Emergency Youth Shelter opened in 2005.

Not one year passed without the struggle to provide the best service and meet the changing needs. Facility and funding were consistently a challenge. The total cost for the construction of the original building was estimated at $150,000. Less than five years later, an addition was required. Throughout the 70’s and again in the 90’s significant work was required on the roof. Through the late 90’s portables and trailers were added and programs were expanded to several satellites.
